Premise:

After finding out he has an STI, Dylan must get back in touch with every girl he has ever had sex with to let them know the bad news.

Each episode of

Scrotal Recall

uses flashbacks to tell a story about Dylan's past sexual encounters. And as

Dylan

goes through his alphabetical list of sexual partners, he marks himself out as that forever awkward and unsuccessful bachelor/boyfriend.Initially, I was worried Dylan's characterization as the awkward guy determined to find serious girlfriend would veer into the tricky Nice Guy territory. Luckily, the writing combined with Johnny Flynn's charm manages to avoid any too much of the whiny Nice Guy shtick.Dylan is occasionally annoying but still, mostly cute in an awkward way. Johnny Flynn's impressive comedic timing really balances the two traits well to ensure that Dylan remains a relatable and entertaining character.

But as Dylan goes through one unsuccessful relationship after another, his best friend,

Evie

waits for him to finally notice her romantic feelings for him.Honestly, I kind of love Evie just because Antonia Thomas is such a beautiful and terrific actress. Sadly, Evie proves to be a rather underdeveloped character though. As the one female lead in the show, I expect Evie to be more than just another potential love interest for Dylan. Evie receives the most screen time as a woman. Yet, four episodes in and I can't think of a single reason why she has fallen for her best friend.As for the show's representation of other women, I like how the show presents a variety of interesting women, each one with a different relationship goal.

And to round out the sitcom trio of friends is the comic relief,

Luke.

Luke is the serial bachelor hellbent on whatever scheme he can think of to get another girl to to sleep with him. As trite as the character is, Luke's antics provide a nice break from Dylan's relationship problems.

Scrotal Recall

is not anything exceptional but it is a throughly entertaining sitcom I don't regret picking up. Hopefully there's another series in the works so these characters can receive some proper development.I look forward to finishing the series because it's such a light and fun show to breeze through. Also, I'm forever sucker for the cliche 'best friends fall in love' trope. I can't help but wish for a happy ending for the unrequited best friends/lovers, Dylan and Evie. How anyone could not notice Antonia Thomas is beyond me though.
