FAVORITE BLOG
WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU RUBI
"I think I've finally remembered what this blog's purpose was, it was supposed to highlight what being a 20 something feels like nowadays. And the truth is, it's not exciting adventures and hooking up with hot strangers. I spent today cleaning my room because my mom ordered me to and then watched an uncomfortable amount of YouTube videos.
So if you're wondering what this blog is about you might as well ask me where I see myself in 10 years, cause you're gonna get the same answer. I don't freaking fucking know. I guess that's the great thing about being a "lifestyle" blogger, you can write about basically anything and no one can say shit because heyyyy I'm a lifestyle blogger and no one really knows what that means anyways. " -- What is this blog even about?
WhenLifeGivesYouRubi is my favorite new blog discovery because of how strongly I relate to Rubi. Being a lost 20 something year old these days is hard, confusing, discouraging and let's face it, very boring. As a fellow 20 something just trying to figure life out, Rubi doesn't have the answers either but at the very least, she makes you feel less alone. My favorite thing about Rubi's blog is how distinct and unique her writing voice is. It's casual, candid, and fun. She talks about everything and nothing and just tells it as it is. Visiting Rubi's blog always feels more like I've having a chill conversation with year instead of reading another blog post on my feed.
FAVORITE COMIC
She-Hulk, Dan Slott (2004 - 2007)
I've been slowly making my way through Dan Slott's run of She-Hulk this summer and loving it! I love getting to know Jessica Walters as both the lawyer and green superhero. Jessica's struggle with the two identities is so interesting. And how amazing is Awesome Andy? He's definitely become one of my favorite comic-book secondary characters.Other Comics Read: Elektra. I'm so behind on my comics, it makes me so sad.
FAVORITE PURCHASE
Zara Leather Biker Jacket
So, this Zara jacket is the most I've ever spent on a single fashion item. But I immediately fell in love with it and leather jackets are a timeless staple so hopefully the price tag means it's a quality jacket that will last me a while. Also, I never did get any big birthday presents aside from getting to see my bestie in London so...Treat Yo Self Time.Well, I treated myself after I saved up for two months to get enough money to order it. I have wide shouders so the jacket ended tighter than I had hoped and there's no room for layering. But I have my bomber leather jacket for layering anyway. Now, I have the Zara jacket for a light jacket as a 'look how bad ass I am' option. Outfit posts featuring this beauty coming soon!
FAVORITE TELEVISION SHOW
Orange is the New Black
I finally got around to watch Orange is the New Black's second season and loved it. It's funny, heartwarming, and ridiculous all at the same time.Overall, I found the the episodic stories for each woman much more interesting last season but I appreciate the show taking the time to dedicate more episodes to more of its characters. I also was glad to see Brooke SoSo as one of Litchfield's newest inmates. She may be annoying as hell but at least, the show's portrayal of Asian American isn't racist and offensive anymore. I can't wait to see SoSo's story as well as all the other great characters in this diverse group of women. As for OITNB's male characters, I will forever love how this show isn't afraid to characterize their most of their men as assholes with the occasional good quality.Other TV Shows Watched: House of Cards, In The Flesh, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Fosters
FAVORITE CHARACTER
Poussey Washington, Orange is the New Black
Poussey and Samira Wiley's unbelievably expressive face has been one of my very favorite things about OITNB since season one so season two's episode six, 'You Also Have Pizza'? Poussey broke my heart and continued to do so every episode after it.I loved seeing her stand up to Vee even though I was literally gasping when she was getting beaten up. I hope next season has happier moments for Poussey and character development outside of her struggle with romantic relationships.
FAVORITE EVENT
A Day Out With Kristen
I broke my usual routine of interning and hermitting to spend the day with Kristen. We decided to get some shopping done in the city and met up in Soho. I didn't end up with any of the fashion pieces that have been on my wish list but I did score a pair of Zara boots for more than a fourth of the original price! Gotta love summer sales. It was so lovely day out with a friend. We strolled down Prince Street, wandering through shops and talking about boys. We even went into UrbanOutfitters and had some silly fun in the photo-booth.
